Shirtless Win

Trevor Bayne became the toast of NASCAR last week when he won the Daytona 500. It was also the 600th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory for Ford Motor Co. The first NASCAR win for Ford came on a hot summer day at the Dayton, Ohio Speedway back in 1950. Jimmy Florian drove the Ford coupe #27 to the win, but victory lane looked a bit different that day. Florian was shirtless. He drove the entire event bare from the waist up. He stated that it was very hot that day and there was nothing in the NASCAR Rule Book to prevent him from having an abbreviated “uniform”. NASCAR added a new rule to the book, beginning with the 1951 season that driver had to be fully clothed in order to compete.
