Buz recalls the 2011 Induction Ceremony

The NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2011 was inducted on Monday evening May 23. The inductees this year are drivers Bobby Allison, Ned Jarrett, David Pearson, Lee Petty and car owner/builder Bud Moore. For me, from the standpoint of being a fan the night was magical. Four of my childhood heroes on stage along with another NASCAR legend, Maurice Petty, representing his father Lee, were almost a surreal experience. Between the four drivers, nearly 300 Cup Series wins were represented and another 63 wins for car owner Moore.  The controversy remains on whether Bobby Allison has 84 or 85 wins. NASCAR says 84. Bobby says 85.The normally quiet David Pearson was a welcomed surprise entertaining the crowd with stories and most of all, his wry humor. He brought down the house. All five gentleman added something personal and unique to the evening. The gut-wrenching saga of Bobby Allison’s life, the patriotic inspiration of Bud Moore’s war efforts, the competitive spirit and family values Lee Petty instilled in his family, and the gentle touch Ned Jarrett brought to his many successful careers within racing.

The Class of 2012 will be named on June 14, 2011 with their induction taking place next January. I can’t wait!
