Ultimate Fan Experience Tour: A Spectacular Way to See the Best of NASCAR’s Magical Allure

Ultimate Fan Experience Tour: A Spectacular Way to See the Best of NASCAR’s Magical Allure

By Chris Lawyer, NASCAR Hall of Fame Intern

NASCAR fans are a loyal group. They love a good show and the magic that is associated with it. There’s nothing like seeing over 100,000 people cheering and watching the beauty of 43 cars zoom by at 200 mph.  It creates what I see as visual poetry in motion, featuring the skills of the 43 daring artists. Every one of them is talented, but it takes a special talent to end up in Victory Lane. Charlotte, N.C. is often regarded as the heart of NASCAR country, with every team essentially located in the region.

One of the best ways to see NASCAR country is the Ultimate Fan Experience Tour (UFE). The experience takes fans on a motorcoach trip that includes stops at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and various other racing attractions in the region. It is the ultimate tour for anyone wanting a behind-the-scenes look at what makes NASCAR and its industry breathe.

Being an intern at the NASCAR Hall of Fame is great.  I get to do what I enjoy like writing and promoting race-related events and materials and experience what I love in the sport of NASCAR. Learning I would have the chance to go on the Ultimate Fan Experience Tour was exciting!  I get to have a fun and rewarding experience and get to see the magic that goes into the sport!

One great feature of the tour is the tour guide, Roger Haas. He has worked in the NASCAR industry for more than thirty years. Roger and NASCAR Hall of Fame historian Buz McKim welcome each tour group to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Buz also is a NASCAR industry veteran, having worked in the archives for NASCAR itself. The NASCAR Hall of Fame has so much for everyone in the family to see and do from the historic shrines of the Hall of Honor to the kid-friendly attractions in Race Week.

Any diehard NASCAR fan who loves the different liveries of the sport must see the Sam Bass Gallery.  Bass is the first licensed NASCAR artist and the walls are filled with numerous paintings, hoods and other memorabilia he helped designed. It is truly a sight to see. The gallery featured room after room of NASCAR art. FUN FACT ALERT: Bass also is a major music fan and loves to design his own guitars.

During the tour, I saw amazing designs inspired by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch and others. It was incredibly exciting when Sam Bass entered the room and started signing items for us.  My Mark Martin collection is now complete with an officially signed Sam Bass poster!

The gallery is located across the street from Charlotte Motor Speedway, which was pleasantly added to our itinerary. We were taken to the Speedway Club and saw a restaurant that would truly rival any five-star restaurant, with its décor, menu and view. The views were out of this world, as one could see the whole track in view. I would love nothing more than to eat here while watching a NASCAR race.

The next stop was to what I consider the Magic Kingdom of NASCAR team shops, the Hendrick Motorsports Complex. The complex is massive with team shops, pit crew practice areas, Rick Hendrick’s personal car collection and the Hendrick Museum/Team Store. You could just feel the magic by walking around the grounds and viewing the race shops and team museum.

The Ultimate Fan Experience Tour was a great sight-seeing trip and is a must for any NASCAR fan wanting to get a behind-the-scenes look at the magic of NASCAR. I have been a NASCAR fan my whole life, attending my first race when I was four, yet I learned so much about the sport.

The Ultimate Fan Experience Tour is operated by AIM Tours and operates trips with many different itineraries.  Visit www.racetocharlotte.com for more information.
