Kasey Kahne Foundation "Five Kahne" 5K Returns to Uptown Charlotte Oct. 12

September 02, 2014

"Five Kahne" 5K to support Ronald McDonald House and student field trips to the NASCAR Hall of Fame

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 2, 2014) - The Kasey Kahne Foundation and the NASCAR Hall of Fame are bringing the Fifth Annual Kasey Kahne Foundation “Five Kahne” 5K presented by Great Clips back to the streets of Uptown Charlotte on Sunday, Oct. 12 with the run beginning at 10 a.m. The start and finish lines as well as the post-race festival will be at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. between Caldwell and Brevard streets. The "Five Kahne" has become one of the fastest growing running events in the Charlotte area in its five years boasting a very competitive field. Runners, fans, families and spectators are invited to join NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne and other industry celebrities for this great event.

“We want the fifth annual 'Five Kahne' to be the largest and most successful 5K yet, but we cannot do it without the support of the fans and running community,” says Shanon Adams, executive director of the Kasey Kahne Foundation. “Whether you’re an avid runner, prefer to walk, choose to volunteer or simply cheer on the participants, we welcome you to be a part of this premier event in October as we culminate race weekend in Charlotte!”

Proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, which provides comfortable accommodations for families of seriously ill children from across the Carolinas receiving medical treatment at local children’s hospitals, and Friends of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which provides grants that fund educational field trips for students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses. Since the program began, these funds have made it possible for more than 4,080 students to visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame free of charge who otherwise would not have been able to have that experience.

“Through the proceeds of the 'Five Kahne' 5K each year, the NASCAR Hall of Fame is able to make lasting impressions on thousands of students from across the state, who may one day be the future leaders in NASCAR and the Charlotte community,” says Winston Kelley, executive director of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. “Providing interactive, hands-on learning opportunities for these students is incredibly rewarding.”

The Kasey Kahne Foundation is also pleased to announce a new partnership with Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital for the Kids Dash. It's free for children ages 7 and under, and each participant will receive an award for their efforts. Parents can sign up their children beginning at 8:15 a.m. on race day at registration. Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital will be on site in a special cheering section made up of children who have benefitted from the hospital’s programs. Kasey Kahne also plans to visit children at the hospital who cannot attend the 5K. Spectators are encouraged to stop by the Novant Health tent to pick up a special sign that children made for cheering on the runners.

Also new this year, participants can personally fundraise. Those who raise $250 or more will earn on-stage recognition, a group photograph with Kasey Kahne and a commemorative jacket from Under Armour.
