NASCAR Hall of Fame Revs Up for October Race Week in Charlotte

Special Hours, New Mascot Unveil, Jeff Gordon Tribute Exhibit, "Five Kahne" 5K and More

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2015) – The NASCAR Hall of Fame has a full lineup of events and activities to enhance the experience for race fans in Charlotte during race week. Below, find the schedule of activities and photo opportunities for media. The venue will also feature extended operating hours Friday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. All other dates in October will have normal operating hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Race Week Media Opportunities:

TUESDAY, OCT. 6
NASCAR Contender Media Day (1:30-4 p.m.)*
Following the final race of the Challenger round, the Chase drivers moving on to The Contender 12 will appear at the NASCAR Hall of Fame for multiple Q&A sessions with fans in the High Octane Theater. Space is limited and first come, first served. NASCAR Hall of Fame members will receive priority entry into the theater and have a chance to win an opportunity to have their picture taken with the drivers. All non-members must have a general admission ticket to attend. WEDNESDAY, OCT. 7
“24: A Tribute to Jeff Gordon” VIP Exhibit Unveil (6-7 p.m.)*
A special VIP exhibit unveil of the Great Hall’s newest exhibit, “24: A Tribute to Jeff Gordon,” will welcome the legend himself as he prepares for his final race in Charlotte. His decades-spanning career saw him battle NASCAR greats, from inaugural NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Dale Earnhardt to today’s current superstars. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is proud to display a career retrospective featuring nine iconic racecars from his open-wheeled beginnings through his final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Media are invited to attend the VIP Exhibit Unveil. Please RSVP to Mariel Littrell at mariel.littrell@crva.com by Tuesday, Oct. 6. The exhibit opens to the public Thursday, Oct. 8 and runs through Sunday, Jan. 10.

SATURDAY, OCT. 10
Members Look – “24: A Tribute to Jeff Gordon” (8:30-9:30 a.m.)*
NASCAR Hall of Fame members are invited to a special look at the newest Great Hall exhibit. Light pastries and coffee will be served. Members will hear firsthand stories about Gordon’s career from John Bickford, VP and general manager of Jeff Gordon, Inc., and Gordon’s stepfather. In addition to his business responsibilities today, Bickford helped shape and mentor Gordon from the beginning of his career. Kids Admitted for $2.40 (9 a.m.-6 p.m.)
To celebrate the first weekend for the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s newest exhibit, “24: A Tribute to Jeff Gordon,” and the unveiling of the NASCAR Hall of Fame's new mascot, Champ the Cheetah, kids ages 5-12 will be admitted to the NASCAR Hall of Fame for just $2.40 (kids under age 5 are free). The offer is good for day-of admission on Saturday, Oct. 10 only and must be purchased at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Box Office. This discounted offer is not valid on phone or Internet orders.

Meet Champ the Cheetah (10 a.m.-11 a.m.)
Welcome Charlotte’s newest resident, the NASCAR Hall of Fame mascot Champ the Cheetah, for his big Rookie Racers Kids Club debut. Sir Purr from the Carolina Panthers, Homer the Dragon from the Charlotte Knights, Chubby from the Charlotte Checkers and Blue from the Charlotte Hounds will be on hand to greet Champ on the NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza. The day will also feature free, family-friendly activities and games, and 100 lucky kids will receive a Champ the Cheetah T-shirt.

SUNDAY, OCT. 11
Kasey Kahne Foundation “Five Kahne” 5K Presented by Great Clips 
(Race: 10 a.m.; Kids Dash: 10:45 a.m.)

Runners, fans, families and spectators are invited to join Kasey Kahne and other industry celebrities for the Kasey Kahne Foundation “Five Kahne" 5K presented by Great Clips. Participants can run alongside Kasey Kahne and other NASCAR celebrities as they hit the streets of Uptown Charlotte. The energetic race fest will be held on the NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza for all to enjoy, including free contests and giveaways, exciting entertainment for all ages, a group warmup for participants and an awards ceremony for the top finishers. Proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte and Friends of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which provides grants that fund field trips for students to the Hall. New this year, Kasey Kahne will donate $105 to the Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital for every runner who beats him in the 5K. Admission is $19.95 for adults, $17.95 for seniors and military, $12.95 for children 5-12 and free for children younger than 5. Memberships are available starting at $125. About the NASCAR Hall of Fame
Conveniently located in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina, the 150,000-square-foot NASCAR Hall of Fame is an interactive entertainment attraction honoring the history and heritage of NASCAR. The high-tech venue, designed to educate and entertain race fans and non-fans alike, opened May 11, 2010, and includes artifacts, hands-on exhibits, a 278-person state-of-the-art theater, Hall of Honor, Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant, NASCAR Hall of Fame Gear Shop and NASCAR Productions-operated broadcast studio.
