Unveil, Honor, Vote During May Days at NASCAR Hall of Fame

New exhibits, special events, free shuttles, extended hours highlight schedule

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 1, 2012) – The NASCAR community shifts its attention to the Charlotte, N.C. area every May for two weeks of action at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This year, to celebrate race month, NASCAR Hall of Fame visitors will be treated to exhibit unveilings, celebrity appearances and a suspense-filled Voting Day to determine the next five Inductees.

The 150,000 square-foot entertainment attraction in uptown Charlotte also will offer extended hours during race weeks, complimentary shuttles to and from Charlotte Motor Speedway and convenient information booths at the racetrack.

“Throughout the month of May, the spotlight is on Charlotte, as race fans travel from all over the country to experience two legendary races at Charlotte Motor Speedway,” said Winston Kelley, executive director of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. “We want to enhance their visit with memorable experiences like watching the surprise announcement of the next Class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame or even meeting Inductees.”

May Special Events Schedule:

Monday, May 14 (extended hours 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Exhibit Opening – Grassroots Racing: Where NASCAR Stars Are Born, the new Great Hall exhibit, tells the story of hometown racetracks, affectionately called grassroots, where many NASCAR drivers began their careers racing every Friday and Saturday night. 

Tuesday, May 15 (extended hours 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Fan Vote Closes – Fans may vote for the 2013 Class on NASCAR.com until midnight EDT May 16.  

Thursday, May 17 (extended hours 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Friday, May 18 (extended hours 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Free shuttle available to and from Charlotte Motor Speedway.

2012 Hall of Honor Unveil – New exhibit featuring 2012 Inductees Richie Evans, Dale Inman, Darrell Waltrip, Glen Wood and Cale Yarborough.

8 – 10 a.m.                  NASCAR Hall of Fame Members Exclusive Preview of the 2012 Hall of Honor exhibits.

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.      NASCAR Hall of Fame Legends, Champions & Winners Members Hall of Honor Social with Waltrip, Wood and Yarborough.

11 a.m.                        Hall of Honor opens to the public.

11:15 – 11:45 a.m.      Waltrip, Wood and Yarborough Q&A in the Great Hall.

Saturday, May 19 (extended hours 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Sunday, May 20 (extended hours 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

2013 Voting Day – The Voting Panel will gather that afternoon to vote for the fourth class of Inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The deliberations will be followed by a public news conference that evening.

10 – 10:30 a.m.           Voting Room Tours led by Historian Buz McKim. (Members-only event)

3 – 7 p.m.        Jim Noble and Angie Skinner broadcast “SiriusXM Speedway” live from the Belk High Octane Theater. Voting panel members will discuss what happened behind the closed doors while voting for the Class of 2013. (Seating limited to 278 guests)

6 p.m.              Public news conference to announce the five people who will be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2013.

Thursday, May 24 (extended hours 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
Free shuttle available to and from Charlotte Motor Speedway.
NASCAR Hall of Fame Member Day – A day filled with unique opportunities for annual pass holders.

9 a.m.              Member Simulator Races - NASCAR Hall of Fame Members can race fellow Members in a full-blown iRacing Simulator battle. Limited number of spots available.

10:30 am          Members-Only Autograph Session with 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee Ned Jarrett in the Hall of Fame Skybox.

2 p.m.              Member Pit Crew Challenge – Members can test their pit crew skills competing in teams of three.

3 p.m.              Member “State of the Hall” Meeting – NASCAR Hall of Fame Members are updated on the state of the NASCAR Hall and introduced to the Member Advisory Council.

4 p.m.              Member Advisory Board Meeting - Members congregate for the first official meeting of the Member Advisory Board.

Friday, May 25 (extended hours 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
Free shuttle available to and from Charlotte Motor Speedway.

2013 Class Celebration – Guests are invited to learn about the new Class, which will be inducted in 2013.

11 – 11:30 a.m. 2013 Class of Inductees Information Session – Guests are invited to participate in a spirited discussion among NASCAR leaders on the importance of the 2013 Class of Inductees.

Noon – 1 p.m. Legends Members Lunch – Legends Members get an exclusive memorable experience having lunch with NASCAR leaders. (Legends Members-only event)

1 p.m.              Book Signing – SPEED personality John Roberts will sign copies of his new book “The Great Book of NASCAR Lists.”

Saturday, May 26 (extended hours 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.)

Sunday, May 27 (extended hours 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
