Field Trip
Itinerary

Here's a minute to minute guide of what to expect the day of your visit to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

If you have any special requests or questions, please do not hesitate to contact our staff.

Arrival and Check-In icon

5 - 7 Minutes
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time to check-in. Staff members will greet you at your bus and walk your students to our group entrance on Caldwell Street. The lead teacher will check in the group by providing your final headcount of students and chaperones and payment. Pre-payment may have been made by your organization’s Field Trip Coordinator.

Gathering Your Group icon

~10 Minutes
Students should be arranged in groups (1 chaperone for every 10 students) before entering the building.

Each group leader will receive a schedule highlighting individual timelines for exploration and discovery, including staff-led activities. Group schedule and sample individual chaperone schedule is sent prior to your visit. An individual chaperone schedule (by number or color groupings) is provided when your group arrives during the chaperone orientation.

Welcome Orientation icon

15 Minutes
The orientation highlights the sport of NASCAR and engages students through an interactive discussion. During the discussion, specific education objectives which relate to selected workshop topics, as well as the science of NASCAR, will be highlighted with students. If your group has a particular educational goal, please let us know learning objectives.

Chaperones and group leaders will receive a separate logistical orientation to review schedule, map and rules which will prepare them for directing their students to specific activities.

Orientation ends (for most groups) by viewing 12-minute film highlighting the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s history and the history
of NASCAR.

Exploring the Educational Features of the Building icon

1.5 - 2.5 Hours
Chaperone-led exploration of the exhibits, activities and touch-screen interactives are scheduled by recommended time blocks for each group. Activities and discussion points for chaperones are provided; they’re also available in the ‘Learn More’ section of the touch screens.

Included physically active job-skill activities:

Pit Crew Member: Working in teams of three, students assume one of the roles of a pit crew member including lifting the car with a jack, changing a tire or filling the
car with gas.

Simulated Racing Experience: Students will participate in a driving experience and see themselves projected virtually on a computer screen. Students will need to steer and press gas/brake pedals.

Educational Learning Sessions icon

30 - 90 Minutes
Schedule one or more of our staff-facilitated educational workshops, classes, challenges and seminars. Each session is designed to connect core curriculum standards and objectives to real-world application through NASCAR. Select from one of our 30+ different subjects/topics that will meet your needs.

Simulated Racing Experience icon

30 Minutes
Participants compete against 14 other participants in a computer-simulated, timed race at one of the NASCAR tracks. Skills used in experience include steering, acceleration/deceleration, braking and utilizing hand-eye coordination to become the fastest driver. Recommend activity for grade levels 5th and up.

Lunch / Pit Stop Café icon

30 Minutes
Schedule a lunch break for your group. There are various options for lunch, including purchasing a meal at the Pit Stop Café or bringing your own lunch to enjoy on the NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza.

Gathering and Exiting icon

10 - 20 Minutes
Groups will gather for a final time before departing for the day. Designated gather locations are provided.

Do you offer field trips? icon

The NASCAR Hall of Fame offers a variety of educational field trip options designed for specific ages and grade levels. Trips start with orientation and activities designed to build learning from start to finish. Trained staff members will assist in your groups learning experience. For information on available options for a field trip, please email groupsales@nascarhall.com or call 704-654-4437.

What is your chaperone to student ratio? icon

NASCAR Hall of Fame requests a 1:10 ratio for chaperone to students. For every 10 students, 1 chaperone will receive free admission (does not include special add on options). For each additional chaperone or parent beyond the 1:10, individuals will pay the chaperone admission rate.

Do field trips to the NASCAR Hall of Fame support classroom connections? icon

Field trips to the NASCAR Hall of Fame can help you meet many of your curriculum objectives! We have created Common Core, Next Generation of Science Standards and state standards aligned with our activities that help students engage in a variety of topics through the sport of NASCAR.

How long is a field trip to the NASCAR Hall of Fame? icon

An educational learning experience averages 3 to 3.5 hours depending on activities and classes selected.

Do you provide any scholarships for student visits? icon

NASCAR Hall of Fame Foundation accepts applications for financial support for admission and education classes at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Eligibility is based on free and reduced lunch and Title I
percentages for a school. The availability of financial assistance depends on funds available for a year.

Does the Hall of Fame have a lunch option? icon

Schools or groups may either bring their lunch to eat outside in our ceremonial plaza under the trees or purchase a lunch package (chicken tenders or hot dog) from our concession. If there is inclement weather, the NASCAR Hall of Fame tries to make accommodations, but we do not have a separate cafeteria option.

What is the cancellation or refund policy? icon

Cancellation notice is requested as soon as possible. Cancellations may be rescheduled for a visit within 12 months. There is no fee for rescheduling as long as the class or visit is rescheduled within one week of the cancellation date and the visit is completed within the 12 months of the originally scheduled date. Changes to the number of attendees must be made three days before the program or visit, and an adjusted invoice will be provided. No refunds will be issued the day of the visit.

When do we need to provide payment? icon

Payment is required five days before the program or visit date. Payments can be made via check or credit card. School checks (no personal) may be accepted on the day of the visit.

How far in advance do I need to schedule a field trip? icon

You may schedule your field trip up to a year in advance to secure your first date selection. A reservation is recommended at least four months in advance of your priority visit day. If you call with less than a month's notice, availability may be limited for select dates.

Can I receive a customized program for my group? icon

Requests for programs modified in content, length, or to fit ages other than those listed on the education section may be granted depending upon availability and require a custom program fee. Lead-time of at least six weeks is needed.

What happens if our group is late? icon

If your group arrives late and you have a staff led program, your program will be adjusted either to combine groups or abbreviated to finish at the originally designated time. If your group arrives more than 30 minutes late, your class may be subject to cancellation.

Do you offer guided tours? icon

For an additional fee, a guided tour can be added to your NASCAR Hall of Fame visit.

Is our visit self-guided or staff led? icon

A staff member will provide an orientation for students and teachers for all groups. If you elect to schedule a class or workshop, your class will be staff facilitated. Chaperones and teachers will provide a self-guided exploration of the building and exhibits. NASCAR Hall of Fame staff members will provide a schedule and map for each group of 10 students.

Is there on-site bus parking? icon

A City of Charlotte bus parking lane is located on the side of the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Brevard Street (lane closest to Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant). As this is a City administered bus lane, parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. NASCAR Hall of Fame cannot ensure or reserve parking in this lane. NOTE: Buses may stay in the bus lane (not the metered side) during your entire visit.

Is there free parking for chaperones or parents? icon

If you are coming with individual parent drivers, please visit our tickets page for more information on parking in the garage. Limited street parking – metered is also available near the Hall of Fame. Garage parking for individuals is not validated or reduced.
