Brownie
Girl Scouts
Brownie Program
Brownie Scouts can participate in two hands-on badge programs — Automotive Engineering or Mechanical Engineering — led by NASCAR Hall of Fame educators.
This 60-minute session encourages creativity, teamwork, and discovery through NASCAR-themed STEM activities that meet official Girl Scout badge requirements. Programs are available virtually or in person.
Program Option 1: Automotive Engineering
Badges Earned: Automotive Design · Automotive Engineering · Automotive Manufacturing
Scouts participate in a series of lessons to discover how cars are designed, engineered, and manufactured. They learn how street cars and race cars differ yet share similar parts and functions.
What Scouts Do
- Automotive Design: Understand why cars have different designs and purposes. Create a design for your own vehicle and shape a 3-D model from clay.
- Automotive Manufacturing: Discover the role of engineers in building and testing cars and learn about assembly lines and the need for preparation before manufacturing.
- Automotive Engineering: Engineer and test a small race car (design varies by level) and take part in a distance challenge to see which design travels the farthest.
Program Option 2: Mechanical Engineering
Badges Earned: Leap Bot Design Challenge · Race Car Design Challenge
In one 60-minute workshop, Brownies explore motion, force, and simple machines through NASCAR-inspired engineering challenges. Scouts build spring-powered Leap Bots and investigate how race car design affects speed, performance, and movement.
What Scouts Do
- Learn how mechanical engineers design, build, and test innovative products.
- Experiment with simple machines and forces through hands-on engineering challenges.
- Discover how engineering impacts everyday life and plays a vital role in NASCAR racing.
