Friction as a force
About the Class
Speed, Banking and a Race Car
Friction as a force and energy in action can help a race team to victory lane or slow them down. Students will have a chance to explore how friction impacts racing from the engine to the tires to braking. Additionally, students will discover the role of motor oil and its viscosity impact on friction. Through a two-part experiment, students will have an opportunity to test their knowledge of friction by building a car that utilizes friction to move, and also conduct an experiment on the viscosity of motor oil as it compares with other fluids both on and off the track. The student’s data can be utilized by teachers for post activities at school.
