Curator's Corner / Interviews

DW’S Top Five Paint Schemes

In an exclusive interview with the NASCAR Hall of Fame, three-time premier series champion and 2012 inductee Darrell Waltrip weighs in on the race cars he thought looked the best on the track.

With NASCAR’s official Throwback Weekend set to take place May 7-9 at historic Darlington Raceway, we can look forward to a whole host of special throwback paint schemes across all three of NASCAR’s National Touring Series.

A highlight of the season for fans and race teams alike, Throwback Weekend is a brilliant way to showcase the history and the heritage of NASCAR at one of its oldest and most challenging race tracks.

To kick off the throwback theme, we sat down with someone who knows a thing or two about iconic paint jobs: NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2012 inductee Darrell Waltrip, winner of 84 premier series races and three championships.

We asked D.W. what his five favorite paint schemes of all time were, and this is what the legendary racer had to say.
